A day of planning...
So I am dead. Like, COMPLETELY dead right now. Most of my buyer's are waiting until after the holiday to start back up their search. Listings are holding off for various reasons. So, I decided to take a break from lead generating today and work on my business plan. Needless to say it has been very interesting seeing where I was last year compared to now..
While reading through different articles of ways to revamp my business for 2021... and I came across an article talking about a Mission Statement and Core Values. I thought to myself hmmm... I do not think I have actually ever sat down and did this for my business. Never thought it was that important to do.
All of these questions started popping through my head so I jotted everything down... What are your values with your business and personal life?? Well, ugh... and I wrote a few things down. Then a few more. Until I came up with 10 words that I felt truly represented me and my business. I ended up narrowing it down to 5 that meant the most to me.
Driven
Problem Solver
Knowledgeable
Humble
There are sooo many other ones that I wanted on there, unity, communication, accountability!! But I also believe actions speak louder than words. And these 5 truly represent me and what I want to be known for in my business. These are all things I have valued in my personal and professional life, but I have never actually outlined it and laid it down. (I definitely recommend for EVERYONE to do this. Regardless of what you do for a living. It may be extremely eye-opening for you.. ) This exercise made me realize what is actually important in my business. Surprisingly, money and finances did not come up on my list.
I think we start to lose track of what is truly important in life. Things start to get crazy, take a wild, unexpected turn and we forget what matters. I know I lost vision of that quite a while ago.
And now, being a single mom who is a full time real estate agent, all I think about is MONEY. OMG where is the next paycheck going to come from?! I do not have any closings for FEBRUARY, I gotta get my ass in gear! I struggle DAILY with the guilt of either spending to much time on my personal life and not enough on my business or vice versa. BUT, after doing this exercise I realize that money isn't what matters. Yes, obviously, I need to be able to take care of my family BUT!!! money can only do so much for us. Worrying about money is not going to get me a new client, worrying will not pay the bills, worrying will not give my daughter a good Christmas. Building relationships with people will. Just while sitting here typing this... I received a text, from a co-worker of a past client I sold a home to... maybe 2 years ago. This client remembered me. He remembered my service. He remembered that I helped him to achieve his goal of owning his first home. And he obviously felt comfortable enough recommending my services to his co-worker. That is exactly why I got into this business.
So anyways... Now, it says a Mission Statement. So... "hey google give me examples of a mission statement".... After reading through a few of them I came up with one for myself. Using my core values to kind of put together an awesome little blurb about how kick-ass of a job I am going to do for my clients! I spent about 2 hours doing this. Reading through different articles, finding the right verbiage, maybe getting up and having a little snack in there as well... but, I got it done. This really made me realize where I was lacking in my business, where I could improve, and what truly mattered to me.
My Mission
My passion is my job and helping my clients achieve one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. This is shown by my hard work that has pushed me to continuously grow my business. I am not only helping you buy or sell a home, but I am helping you build your life, dreams and empire. I take this task extremely seriously. Over the years I have built great business relationships with top professionals in the industry, ensuring we will get you to the closing table. My goal is to become your local area specialist for any questions you may have long after closing.
Overall I am glad I spent the past almost 3 hours now working on this. This exercise made me realize what I truly want for my business in the future. I am so excited to share this with you!
For those of you that have bought or sold a home in the past or want to in the future... What values do you look for in a real estate agent? What matters to you most?
